Transcription: This bronze statue of Samuel Jordan Kirkwood was a gift from the state of Iowa. Kirkwood was a respected lawyer and served six years as a United States Senator. He was also Secretary of the Interior under President James Garfield. Kirkwood lived from 1813 to 1894.
